A little more history

Mentone was famous for its health spas, visited by at least one U.S. President, Teddy Roosevelt.  It was named for Menton, France.  It occupies a total of 6.2 square miles.  Highway 38 (Mentone Blvd.), becomes Mill Creek Road, as one leaves the district and heads north-east towards Angelus Oaks and Big Bear City.  Highway 38 was formerly called LRN 190 prior to 1934 (LRN is short for Legislative Route Number).  Daily traffic on the Highway ranges from a low of 1,850 to a peak of 17,800 cars per day (I'm positive that it is at it's peak every time I have to cross it!).
